Just sit and write for 5 min. This is what you get.
Since the semester began I have sat down numerous times at my computer attempting to write a blog, however, something always comes up – a deadline, a crisis, a report, my phone, CSI, whatever, something comes up and I get sidetracked. I am like a 6 year old that cannot focus. However, tonight I am going to try and get this done. Originally I thought maybe I could see who could go the longest without writing a post – Gogie or me; however, I think he’s going to win that challenge as it’s time to write.
A friend of mine from work asked me how he should write his med-school applications as he hates writing things, I told him to just sit down for 5 min straight and keep typing – from that mess that is spewed allover the computer screen something of substance will arise – I hope that there is something in here that interests you – my reader. (this all being said, I will not read what I write, as that could delay me actually putting this up.. so sorry… :) )
Being back in Toronto is always a challenge for me. I fell that I have to press pause on my life in Israel and wait to hit play again for a few months. It’s hard. The last few weeks that I had in Israel were great, and it was hard to leave, however, I know that I have work to do here….
So speaking of work. I am exhausted. I am pulling 18+ hour days again – which is funny. You would think that with hours like htat I would be:
a) Some sort of security/army/police
b) A multi-millionaire CEO of some start up company.
c) A doctor
However, none of those are correct – I am just a Jewish Educator attempting to do something and who knows – make a difference?
This year things have been pretty hectic. My job has changed pretty dramatically, I am currently sharing Jobs with people – which makes things a lot more complicated than they should be. I am also no longer based at one campus – I am now technically on all campuses citywide, however, there sometimes isn’t enough hours in the day to get it all done. Another problem with me (as some of you may know) is that after work I need at least 3 hours of down time. Catching up on movies, tv or the typical face-stalking. You totally know what that means…. Admit it! Anyways, I am really just not sleeping. Thank goodness I have friends in Israel that are waking up the same time I am acting out my insomnia. WOO HOO.
Ok, lets think of some fun things that I have done:
1) Pirate Festival : It was too funny. We had a great time swashbukeling and whatever else we did. I learned about a new drink – Grog. I highly recommend drinking it… however, don’t drink 4 of them in an hour in the hot sun…. I mean..um…er….
2) Ian was in town so we got to hang out and see a really crappy movie. In fact, it was so bad, that I cannot even remember the title as I have just blocked it out of my mind : )
3) Finding out the only way to see a movie is to go Promenade, spend $6 and have the theater pretty much to yourselves and be able to be as loud as you want (right Rebecca?)
4) Nuit Blanche. Ok, it has not happened yet,but I am planning on going.
5) MIAMI! I decided to go to Miami during RH to see Rivka. We had a freakin’ awesome time (as she would say.) We spend most of the time in the pool. Spent some time on South Beach (which I have to add is pretty gross) took a picture infront of Miami Ink (Because I am a dork) Got sun burnt (naturally) It was a great time. It was 4 days of well – doing nothing and it was awesome.
6) Forgot to write a grant proposal. Oops. However, due to problem with too many jobs, oops. Whatever, so now I am on the hunt for more programming money, Poop.
7) Built a sukkah with my dad and grandmother Its called a safari sukkah and it only fits two, but it’s awesome.
8) Decided to get my hair cut. Now, that is a story in itself. So my usual lady will be away for another month and I really needed a hair cut. So I go in and decided that heck, maybe I should get my colour done too (as it was all over the place) and next thing I know I am strawberry blonde-ish. Yeah I am totally not sure how I feel about it yet, however:
A) it is just hair
B) it will grow out
C) I can always change it… again.
The way I look at it, my hair has been all sorts of colours (Purple was a personal favourite….) However… right now, BLOND? Yeah.. about that
9) Um…. Hard at work really. Working on many different things right now, movie festivals, trips, classes and day to day crisis. It’s kinda cool, however, it’s getting colder out – which means the snow is coming nad I am totally not prepared. FINE, I know its only the end of September and I should not be worried about such things, however, it’s Toronto, you never know when it could get cold here….
10) I am looking into taking a scuba diving class. This way I can get certified. This is one thing that I have always wanted to do, it should start in a few weeks. I can do most of the classes here, then get my open water certification in Israel. WOOO HOO!
11) I have a slew of appointments to figure out what is wrong with me and my current health issues. It’s really bad. However, what can I do? Nada. So until Nov 1st, I am just waiting… and in pain.
12) I am teaching again, which makes me happy. I gave a pretty decent DT at a staff meeting last week, however, it wasn't one of my best. Next week I will post my DT from my Bat Mitzvah- it deals with light so it will be good for B'reshit. You too can have a glimpse into what was in my noggin as a bat mitzvah. Anyways, I am teaching a few classes, which is a bit intimidating for me. I also have a few students that want to sit and learn with me inbetween classes. Not being a rabbi has it's perks (which if life plan #231209-6 would have happened I think I would be entering my final year of Rab school....HA!)
So it’s been more than 5 min- I hope that something here has actually made some sence. Leave some comments and let me know how things are going on in your world.
Wishing you all a great Sukkot. This is the time I really miss Israel. So…yeah. I’m going to stop now before I get sad. I'm looking forward to pressing the play button soon - it just seems far away.
Modim L'simcha!
